We need a holiday. Like the one in this vintage GIF. Joan Pons justifies his current mental dullness through these images.
WHO
CONTROLS
WHOM?
By Mau Morgó
They’re intelligent, but they’re asleep.
Pieces of metal with a brain, without any kind of logic, but with continuous thoughts and deliberate movements.
They’re watching us. Their algorithms are becoming more precise every time and they’re able to read and process our behaviour better, but yet they’re incapable of recognizing themselves in a mirror.
It takes a human to read, interpret and programme those “beings”, but isn’t that human person a mere extension of the technology and not the other way around?
Let’s remember that it’s thanks to the army and to investments in weaponry and military development that all the technologies and inventions that have become more and more trivial and have been adapted for civilian use exist: the Internet, computers, GPS, digital cameras, air transportation, antibiotics, drones…
If these technologies were devised to be used by soldiers with the only goal of controlling, watching and executing from a distance, diminishing thus the emotional impact on the soldier, in what position are we by using this technology? What do we become when we interact with it? Who controls whom?
