Irkus has published comic books with many imprints, from British No Brow to Barcelona’s Apa Apa, and has produced illustrations for clients as diverse as Pitchfork, the Angoulême comic festival or the Museum of Marihuana. But he is, above all, an artist with a vast personal work that he self-publishes with his own risography print, Medala Riso, and also exhibits his work regularly in galleries and specialised shops.
Although he likes to play it down a bit, the truth is that Irkus’s illustrations have metaphysical, semiotic and philosophical qualities. He draws very serious things in a mad way, with an extremely technical and complex trace that doesn’t look show up at first gaze. And he’s got something that’s quite difficult to accomplish in this day an age: his own, unique and incomparable style.
