AFFAIRE
Pep and Pol. Pol and Pep. They are Affaire. They have been with us since the beginning and their addition to O’s roster has been a natural evolution. This young art studio works with a great variety of clients in disciplines ranging from art direction and publishing to visual identity and web design. We like to think of the O web site as one of their masterpieces. Supermarché, Act, Material Turn, Harster and LLOS& are some of their most recent projects.
They love a challenge, and they always find brilliant and elegant solutions beyond any conventions. Their projects are characterised by a solid conceptual basis and impeccable execution. They’re our idols.
SUPERMARCHÉ
Supermarché is a research project willing to foster debate around consumerism and notions such as quality, utility and necessity. This interest is mediated through merchandising and Supermarché’s own editions that can be acquired at their online store.
ACT.
Act is an espadrilles brand born from the spontaneity and boldness of two friends. New in the world of shoe design and manufacturing, they create a simple and classic artisan product by updating existing patterns, mixing different traditions and emphasising the quality of the materials.
LLOS
Andreu Llos is the programmer who developed the O web site, and a programming whizz kid in general. His skill and ability to experiment with exceptional behaviours and functionalities and his painstaking work make him very special. Little by little he has become Barcelona designers’ favourite programmer. His success and especially his will to collaborate with others was the main motivation behind Affaire’s idea for their logo: “LLOS&”. To put it another way, Llos isn’t your usual service provider, someone you request A and gives you A, but instead he always brings in something special, an added value, to his work.
MATERIAL TURN
This is one of the first Supermarché projects: a book published in collaboration with Affaire, Dutch agency and its authors, Baumeister Jung. It contains the photographs taken by of the garments designed by his business partner, designer Melitta Baumeister. Melitta is characterised by working clothes as though they were solid materials, not fabrics. Thus, instead of pattern designing, her work routine is more similar to sculpture. The materials chosen (PVC, velvet and Tyvek) produce optical illusions that anticipate the heaviness or lightness of every garment, visual effects that the designer takes advantage of by doing the exercise of “freezing” the said garment for an instant.
CLÍNICA DENTAL BONANOVA
(HARSTER)
Affaire has undertaken the art direction, identity and web design of this dental clinic from Barcelona. A sober and serene campaign, miles away from the typical one full of broad smiles and nice doctors, that prefers to highlight the experience and know-how of these professionals by making use of their main working tool: their hands.
